What is polypropylene board?

2024-11-12

Polypropylene board (PP board) is a semi crystalline material with characteristics such as hardness and high melting point. It is harder and has a higher melting point than polyethylene (PE). Due to the high brittleness of homopolymer type PP at temperatures above 0 ℃, commonly used PP materials in commercial applications typically incorporate irregular copolymers of 1-4% ethylene or higher ratios of clamp copolymers

Polypropylene board has a wide range of applications, including but not limited to advertising billboards, recycling bins, industrial boards, protective boards, electronic industry protection, etc. In industrial applications, PP board can be used for outer packaging protection of wires and cables, outer packaging protection of glass and steel plates, cushion plates, storage racks, partitions, bottom plates, etc. In addition, PP board is also commonly used for packaging of washing machine backboards, refrigerator insulation layers, frozen foods, medicines, sugar and wine, etc.

Polypropylene board (PP board) has the following main characteristics:

Physical characteristics:

Hardness: PP board is harder than polyethylene (PE) and has a higher melting point.

Temperature range: Homopolymer type PP is very brittle above 0 ℃, so commonly used PP materials in commercial applications usually contain 1-4% ethylene random copolymers or higher ratios of ethylene content copolymers.

Shrinkage rate: PP has a relatively high shrinkage rate, usually 1.8-2.5%, but adding 30% glass additive can reduce the shrinkage rate to 0.7%.

Chemical characteristics:

Chemical resistance: PP has good resistance to acid and alkali corrosion and dissolution, but has no resistance to aromatic and chlorinated solvents.

Environmental stress cracking: PP does not have environmental stress cracking problems.

Processing and application:

Processing method: PP board can be made through processes such as extrusion, calendering, cooling, and cutting. Common modification methods include adding glass fibers, metal additives, or thermoplastic rubber.

Application areas: Due to the excellent characteristics of PP board, it has been widely used in multiple industries, such as chemical, electronic, food packaging, etc.

Modification method:

Reinforced PP board: By adding glass fiber or other reinforcing materials, the strength and stiffness of PP board can be significantly improved.

Co polymer PP board: Co polymer PP material has lower thermal distortion temperature, low transparency, low glossiness, and low rigidity, but has stronger impact resistance.

In summary, polypropylene sheets have been widely used in various fields due to their excellent physical and chemical properties.
